These wooden planks were relief carved with different decorations and used to make spiced biscuits for St Nicholas' Eve on December 5th in Flanders. This example shows a young suitor in traditional dress and the biscuit made from this would be given to the object of a man's affections - if she accepted the biscuit, she reciprocated his feelings!
