Antique French coupe-pain

This is a rather wonderful antique French baguette slicer, known as a coupe-pain dating from c.1890-1910. The long steel chopper is hinged onto the solid wooden cutting block and baguettes would be fed through and sliced. The blade is wonderfully weathered and the block is in great condition - the handle has an old split as shown in the picture but as this is an authentic, hard-working farmhouse piece I think we can forgive it!
