A rare and rather lovely antique German milliners head beautifully hand carved from sycamore with the model number or size stamped on the side. The face on this example is particularly well caved and it's one of the nicest ones we've seen.
These heads, also known as hat blocks or display heads became popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for shaping hats and as decorative display pieces often attached to stands. This has signs of historic woodworm which is long gone but has been treated as a precaution and luckily only affected the back of the head rather than the face.
